Hi thank you for stopping by today, my name is John Denekar, yes this is my real name. You may wonder why I decided to start a site about alcohol. Well let’s take a short trip back to 1970, that is when I was three years old. We we’re living in Rochester New York. My father was in the United States navy. One day him and my mother had a backyard barbecue, my father had some friends from his ship over for this gathering.
So since I was three years old at the time my parents placed me in a play pen to keep me from running off. The play pen was placed over by father and the grill. Now we can get to the fun part of my story. My father’s chief petty officer was helping with the grill. There was a small table by the grill, my father’s chief would set his beer down on this table while he tended to the food. Now guess who’s play pen was next to the table. Yup, that’s right, it was me in my play pen.
I’m pretty sure you can guess what happens in this story now. However I think that I will paint the picture for you. So every time the chief would put his beer down, I would reach up, grab the beer, drink it and place the empty bottle back on the table. Now the chief couldn’t figure out what happened to his beer, so he would go grab another cold one from the cooler, then come back to grill, and set his beer on the table. I would again pick up the beer, drink it, and place the empty bottle back on the table. This happened three times in total. My father and his chief finally figured out what was going on with his beers. But not until I was found fast asleep, curled up in the corner of my play pen with a empty beer bottle in my hand.
Now let’s fast forward to the 80’s. When I was a teenager, pretty much when all of us were trying just about everything under the sun. So of course I found ways to get a hold of some beer for a party in the woods, or perhaps something stronger to drink. Like teenagers do. Then my high school graduation when my mother got two full kegs. Shortly after, I left home to attend bootcamp for the US navy, following in my father’s footsteps. Since I was not of legal age to drink, I had to go without. Atleast until my first duty station. I was sent to Japan to serve on the USS Midway. Now in Japan, you can drink alcohol no matter what age you are. I was still stationed there when I got the call that my mother had passed away. I came home for the funeral, not being of legal drinking age. Fortunately for me, I had friends who were of legal age. Plus having a military ID helped me to purchase beer. Returning to Japan allowed me to live inside the bottle. I had a rough time after loosing my mother, I actually lost myself for a long time. Even when I transferred to my second duty station in California, I found ways to get alcohol until I turned 21.
After I finished my military service, I came back home to New York state, I married the love of my life and we have five children together. Now at age of 53 I still drink, but I do it occasionally and responsibly. So alcohol has been a part of my life ,my whole life. I guess you can say that I’m a alcoholic. I never went to alcoholics anonymous or any other support group. I had my wife kids to keep from going over the edge. I just figured out, you can still have a drink without going overboard.
My whole purpose for this website is to show that you can still have a cocktail or two, and still keep it in control. My drinking pretty much ruined my career in the United States navy. I don’t want you to loose whatever is important in your life.
You can still enjoy a drink or two and not be a jackass to the people that you love. Whether they are a family member or a close friend. Believe me the abuse of alcohol can take away everything that you hold dear to your heart, including yourself.
My number one goal for this site, is discuss different types of alcoholic beverages. Im not talking about your common rum and coke, or jack Daniel’s and coke. However those two beverages won’t be excluded.
All types of alcohol will be welcome here, after all, we are all adults here. We each have our own opinions and we know what we like. My main goal here is going to be drink recipes that can be made at home, That can be shared with our family and friends. But allows us to drink responsibly.
If you ever need a hand or have ay questions, feel free to leave them below and I will be more than happy to help you out.
All the best,
John J. Denekar II
